CRM hygiene: the small habit with outsized leverage

CRM hygiene is keeping records accurate, complete, timely and consistent — so the CRM reflects reality and the whole team (and its AI tools) can rely on it.

Why most people get it wrong

  • Batch-updating from memory days later
  • Empty or stale fields
  • Inconsistent stages / sandbagged close dates
  • Personal shorthand no one else understands
  • Treating the CRM as admin overhead, not shared truth

What "strong" looks like in this move

  • Your opportunity records reflect reality: stage, next step, technical status.
  • Discovery and technical requirements are captured where the AE and SE can use them.
  • Handoffs carry full context — nothing lives only in your head.
  • You follow the team's fields/conventions so AI and reports stay accurate.

For the SDR → Sales Engineer move

Clean CRM data is how an SDR's work becomes an SE's starting point — and a documented history of thorough, well-logged discovery is itself evidence you think like an SE. In the SE role, your discovery notes, technical requirements and POC status live in (or feed) the CRM; sloppy records break the AE–SE handoff and undermine forecasting. Modern AI sales tools also read/write these fields, so hygiene is now an AI-reliability issue too.

Try it today

Bring one opportunity record fully up to date (stage, next step, close date, notes).

Ten minutes. One real thing, not a study session.

How you'd show it

  • A clean, complete opportunity record.
  • A documented AE/SE handoff with discovery + technical context.
  • Manager/AE feedback on your record quality.
